For my Birthday, Heather treated me to a visit to our favorite North Carolina mountain town, Blowing Rock. We always enjoy visiting this area of North Carolina as it has so much to offer. For a special Birthday dinner, Heather made a reservation to Bistro Roca and Antler Bar. When you walk in, the mountain decorations are warm and inviting. Right away, I noticed the large firewood oven where they were cooking pizzas and macaroni and cheese dishes (I had a sneaky feeling we would get one or the other) and I was right! We had a tough time choosing dishes because everything looked so delicious! We went with the pork lettuce wraps for an appetizer which was different than others we have had in the past because they had eastern North Carolina barbecue pork on them. So great! Heather is a sucker for any kind of cheese dip so we also ordered the pimento cheese and winter squash bourse, both made in house and served with warm French loaf bread. These were perfect. For my entrée, I ordered the swordfish special which was served with a sweet potato hashbrown and asparagus topped with a red pepper sauce – excellente! Heather ordered the bacon and blue cheese firewood pizza with caramelized onions. Thankfully she gave me a few bites…very delicious. Lastly, since it was my birthday, we had to get a dessert. I chose the cookie bar which was a chocolate chip crust topped with homemade caramel and chocolate frosting. Yep, it was as good as it sounds. If you are in this area of our beautiful State, I would highly recommend you stop in for a meal.
