Heather and I have been missing out on this place! For a long time, we have been wanting to give it a try and then it would come time to decide where we wanted to go for dinner and we would continue to forget about this hidden gem. It's a German restaurant in Seaboard Station in Downtown Raleigh called J. Betskis. It has been in the same location for quite a few years and we heard from the owner it is going to be moving to a Five Points location (in Highpark) soon for more room and to expand their offerings. During the pandemic, they have many dishes you can take home to try. Their menu rotates every week with various small plates and entrees. First, we had sliced bratwurst with a curry brat pierogi, fried egg and lemon mint cucumber salad. Next, we tried a romaine salad wrap which was topped with smoked chicken and smoked kielbasa with mushroom and melted gruyere cheese pierogi, blackened tomato, charred lime aioli and corn relish. Heather's favorite was a dish we tried with scallops, lump crab pierogi, charred tomatoes and hollandaise sauce. My favorite dish was a smoked chili rubbed chicken with lump crab meat salad topped with hard boiled eggs, smoked kielbasa, tomatoes and buttermilk-peppercorn dressing. Have you heard of pierogis? We hadn't until we tried them at J. Betskis. It is basically a dumpling that has delicious goodness on the inside! Heather and I were very impressed with J. Betskis and will gladly go back to see them either at their Seaboard location or once they move to Five Points.
