ALERT, ALERT! *NEW* quick stop in DTR! My brother was coming into town and Heather and I always try to take him somewhere new. We have been very excited about trying the new Ramen restaurant on Wilmington St. and this seemed to be the perfect occasion. Tonbo Ramen just opened a few short months ago and we had heard nothing but good things. We got there a little past the dinner rush due to a prior engagement and we were seated right away. The atmosphere felt as though we were in a big city with the vibe and the music that was playing. The service was excellent and as you can see from the picture they have an extensive drink menu. We went straight for the entrees as they do not have any appetizers. I ordered the "broth less" ramen bowl, Mazemen, which has spicy chili oil, pork meat balls, grilled asparagus, broccoli rabe, scallions, fried garlic, fried onions all topped with a poached egg. Heather ordered the Tonkotsu which has pork belly, pork and shrimp dumplings, a soy-marinated soft egg with pickled red onions, sesame garlic oil, scallions and nori. She did give me a bite of the pork belly and it was delicious. She did say that she could have gone without the soy-marinated egg but everything else was awesome! My brother on the other hand did not let me try a bite of his but he loved it. He ordered the Seafood Ramen Bowl which has garlic butter shrimp, scallops, calamari with the soy-marinated egg, scallions, broccoli rabe, pickled carrots, kamaboko and nori. He cleaned his bowl out! We definitely would go back to the restaurant again for a quick bite and would highly recommend it if you wanted something reasonably priced, quick, hearty and healthy.
